CLEARWATER – At the Clearwater Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, the Smoky Valley wrestling team may have struggled overall but Braunson Golden finished off an outstanding day by bringing home gold for taking first place in his 138-pound division.

Golden finished 3-1 for the day and won the 138-pound championship by pinning Rose Hill’s Brennan Evans.

Two other Viking wrestlers finished with silver by taking second in their divisions as Dax Hopp went 4-1 for the day and took second at 182-pounds while Tanner Luttig also finished 4-1 for the day and took second at 195-pounds. Hopps loss was his first of the season as he was beaten by Hunter Schroeder and undefeated wrestler from Concordia.

As a team, Smoky Valley finished seventh with 95 team points. It was a three-team race for the tournament title with Pratt prevailing by scoring 220 points while Mulvane finished second with 207.5 and Concordia placed third with 206.5. Other teams participating were El Dorado, Rose Hill, Nickerson, Coffeyville, Independence, Clearwater and Chaparral.

Up next for the Smoky Valley wrestlers will be a junior varsity match on Tuesday at Nickerson and a varsity match also at Nickerson on Friday.

TEAM SCORING: Pratt 220, Mulvane 207.5, Concordia 206.5, El Dorado 149, Rose Hill 133, Nickerson 122, Smoky Valley 95, Coffeyville 85, Independence 76, Clearwater 52, Chaparral 15.

VIKING WRESTLERS:

Devon Van Fosson went 2-3 and finished 7th at 120 lbs.

Justice Gardner went 2-3 and finished 6th at 126 lbs.

Braunson Golden went 3-1 and finished 1st at 138 lbs.

Austin Sharp went 1-4 and finished 6th at 152 lbs.

Richard Zeller went 0-3 and finished 7th at 160 lbs.

Dax Hopp went 4-1 and finished 2nd at 182 lbs.

Tanner Luttig went 4-1 and finished 2nd at 195 lbs.

Leroy Bean went 1-3 and finished 7th at 220 lbs.
