STRUBER HAS HUGE GAME!

By William

CANTON – Despite a huge game by Tyson Struber, the Canton/Galva boys’ basketball team fell behind early and were unable to catchup in their 13-point, 64-51 loss to Sedgwick in the opening round of the Canton/Galva Basketball Invitational on Tuesday.

After Sedgwick took an early 13-7 first quarter lead, the Cardinals put another 24 points on the board in the second quarter while holding the Eagles to just 10, giving them a commanding 20-point, 37-17 halftime lead over the host Eagles.

The Cardinals extended the lead out to 24 points by the end of the third quarter before the Eagles went on an offensive explosion of 20 points in the final quarter only to find it too little, too late though they were able to whittle the lead down to the final 13 point margin.

“We had a lot of unforced turnovers in the first half that led to easy baskets,” explained Eagle Head Coach Shane Duncan during his post-game reflections. “We came out in the second half and took care of the ball, rebounded and hit shots. It was truly a tail of two halves. Hopefully we can start our game Thursday the way we ended the game tonight.”

On the stat sheet for the game, Tyson Struber was everywhere for the Eagles as he recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while also dishing out a pair of assists and scoring two steals and two blocked shots. Joining Struber in double digits in the scorebook was Brayden Minson who hit for an even dozen and Kinser Colgin who scored 10. As for the team stats, the lone glaring difference between the Cardinals and the Eagles in the game were in turnovers where Sedgwick had just six while the Eagles committed 19.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CANTON/GALVA EAGLES?

With the loss the Eagles drop to 3-6 on the season as they now prep to return to the hardwood on Thursday for their consolation bracket battle with Ell-Saline at 4:30 p.m.
