SOLOMON – On Thursday, the Canton/Galva junior high boys basketball team traveled north to Solomon and scored three victories, including a decisive, 32-point, 47-15 win over a previously unbeaten Solomon team by the still undefeated Junior Eagle ‘A’ team.

With both teams having a lot at stake in the Wheat State League standings, the Junior Eagles took command early and jumped out to a 19-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and pushed their margin to 23 points by the halftime break at 32-9.

After scoring another 15 points in the third quarter while holding host Solomon to just a pair of points, the Junior Eagles did not need any points in the fourth quarter to still come home with a whopping 32-point victory.

“I am proud of how our boys came together and played even harder after we lost a starter due to an injury in the first quarter,” explained Junior Eagle Head Coach Adam North in his post-game reflections. “Others stepped up and played well. I was happy with our team effort moving the ball to get quality shots on offense, working hard on defense, and trying to limit their opportunities on the glass.”

In a feat rare in basketball, the Junior Eagles scored more points from beyond the three-point arc than they did inside of it as they connected on 11-of-14 three-pointers while only making six two-pointers for the game.

Leading the Junior Eagle offense was Kaiden Wilson and Wyatt Collins who each put 12 points in the scorebook while Jory Ratzlaff and Jordan Duncan also scored in double digits with 10 points each. Wilson’s points all came from beyond the arc as he connected on four three-pointers, while Duncan hit for three and both Collins and Ratzlaff each made a pair.

In the other two Junior Eagle wins over Solomon, the ‘B’ team scored a 28-6 victory as Noah Collins hit for 15 points.

The Junior Eagle ‘C’ team played just a single half of a game and won 9-1.

With the Junior Eagle ‘A’ team now sitting at 10-0 for the season and being the only unbeaten team in the Wheat State League, they will put their unbeaten mark on the line again next Thursday, January 30 when they travel west to tangle with Little River.
