PYLE, BOESE, WEDEL TOP SCORING!

MAIZE – It was a split decision on Thursday for the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball teams as the ‘A’ team lost for the first time while the ‘B’ team brought home a victory on the road at Maize South.

‘A’ TEAM EARNS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON!

For the first time in the 2019-20 season the eighth grade ‘A’ team tasted losing as Maize South scored an 11-point, 63-52 victory over the Junior Pups.

While seven Junior Pups put points in the scorebook, Own Pyle led the way with 14 points while Gavin Wedel chipped in with 10.

“In the ‘A’ game we ran into a good team with size and athleticism,” explained Junior Pup assistant coach Grant Barrett. “I am proud of the way we competed. I know these guys wanted to finish the season undefeated and they deserved to. This week they did a great job of coming together knowing that they still had ‘a little meat on the bone.’

Coach Barrett concluded his ‘A’ game reflections by adding, “Even though the score wasn’t the way we wanted it to be, it’s a learning experience. I know the boys are eager to get the taste out of their mouth and will looking forward to finishing on top come Monday.”

‘B’ TEAM GETS 20-POINT VICTORY!

In the eighth grade ‘B’ game, the Junior Pups came out ahead by a solid margin, getting a 20-point, 39-19 victory over Maize South.

Like in the ‘A’ game, seven Junior Pups put points on the scoreboard during the battle with Henry Boese getting the high total of 14 points while Owen Fetsch just missed double digits with nine.

Coach Barrett continued his reflections on the day by commenting about the ‘B’ game when he said, “The ‘B’ team did a great job of getting after Maize South early. They didn’t have an answer for our full court press, and we were able to get a couple interceptions right to us. We did a great job moving the ball on offense and sticking with the play even if the ball didn’t fall the first time. Everyone did a great job hustling for those 50/50 balls and keeping Maize South off the glass which we knew was going to be a task all day.”
