PYLE, HARMS, MALVO TOP SCORERS!
MCPHERSON – The McPherson Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team closed out their 2019-20 regular season with a pair of nice wins at home on Monday over Fort Riley.
‘A’ JUNIOR PUPS WIN BY 32!
It was all ‘A’ team Junior Pups from the opening tip as they scored a 32-point, 39-7 victory over Fort Riley to raise their season mark to 9-1.
The Junior Pups jumped out early and often, taking a 13-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and then continuing their stifling defense to hold a 22-0 advantage at the halftime break.
After letting up on the pressure defense, Fort Riley tried to show some offensive life before the Junior Pups closed out the game on a15-4 run.
“I felt like in the first half we came out ready to play,” noted seventh-grade Junior Pup Head Coach Tyler Brown. “Our press and intensity gave them all kinds of trouble to start the game. After holding them to zero points in the first quarter we continued with terrific intensity and went on to finish the half leading 22-0.”
Seven Junior Pups put points in the scorebook with Gabe Pyle leading the way with 11 while Bishop Brown just missed double digits with nine.
Coach Brown concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “It was the second half once we took our press off that we struggled. We only scored two points in the third quarter and we seemed to lose our edge. But we answered in the fourth with much better half-court defense that lead to easy buckets.”
‘B’ TEAM JUNIOR PUPS SCORE 28-POINT VICTORY!
In the seventh grade ‘B’ game, the Junior Pups once again dominated Fort Riley with a 42-14 victory to move their season record to 4-5.
“As the end of the year approaches our ‘B’ team has really started playing better,” explained Junior Pup Coach Paul Reichenberger in his post-game reflections. “With Alex (Harms) and Jaxson (Malvo) playing really well, it was hard for Fort Riley to stop us tonight. The ‘B’ team has now won three of its past four games which is some great momentum going forward into the Fort Riley Tournament in two weeks. I hope that we continue to dominate inside and play Bullpup basketball.”
Leading the way for the ‘B’ team Junior Pups were Alex Harms and Jaxson Malvo who both had big games, scoring 17 and 13 points respectively.
