SCHNEIDER, STUCKY TOP SCORING!

By William

ELYRIA – The Elyria Christian boys basketball team held off a second half rally by Rural Vista to score a home court victory, 31-25, on Saturday.

Doubling up the visitors score in the first quarter, the Eagles held a five-point, 10-5 advantage by the end of the first eight minutes of play, then added three more points to their lead and took a 17-9 lead into the halftime break.

Rural Vista pushed back coming out of the break and outscored the Eagles 10-4 in the third quarter to nibble the Elyria Christian lead down to just two at 21-19 heading into the final eight minutes of play. The Eagles held on with a 10-point fourth quarter and left the court with the final six-point win.

“This was a grinding type of game and we could not get any flow on the offensive end,” explained Elyria Christian Head Coach Zach Goodrich during his post-game reflections. “Rural Vista made it difficult for us to get anything around the rim with their size. We were able to find some openings in the zone and get some transition baskets that helped us get going offensively.”

Gage Schneider and Zach Stucky led the Eagles in scoring with each hitting for nine while Schneider nearly had a double-double as he also pulled down 10 rebounds while adding a couple of blocked shots to his final totals.

Coach Goodrich concluded his reflections by saying, “Gage (Schneider) had a solid game for us as he guarded their inside play very well and made two huge buckets for us in the 4th quarter when Rural Vista was making a run. Proud of his effort tonight! We are also improving but need to be better possession to possession. Tuesday when we go to Goessel will be a tough game, so our attention to detail will need to be better.”

In the junior varsity game, the Elyria Christian Eagles also scored a victory, winning 15-2.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE ELYRIA CHRISTIAN EAGLES?
