CANTON – Playing the way have most of the season, the Canton/Galva Junior High boys’ basketball team scored one more decisive victory on Monday when they dismantled Goessel at home with a 22-point, 35-13 win.

Goessel took a single-point upper hand at the end of the first quarter leading 7-6, though the Junior Eagles bounced back and outscored the visitors 9-2 in the second quarter to take a six-point, 15-9 lead heading to the halftime break.

Coming out in the second half, Canton/Galva used their stifling defense to hold Goessel to zero points in the third quarter while putting 14 points on the scoreboard to take a commanding 39-9 advantage into the final quarter of play where they cruised in for the 22-point, 35-13 victory.

Lane McMannis led the Junior Eagles with 13 points while Wyatt Collins and Jory Ratzlaff both chipped in with eight.

WHAT’S NEXT? With the victory, the Junior Eagles finish the regular season unbeaten at 12-0 and will now prep for the Wheat State League Tournament which they host beginning on Thursday. The Junior Eagles are seeded number one and will play eighth-seed Peabody/Burns on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in the Canton/Galva High School Gym.

In tCanton/Galva Junior Eagle ‘B’ game, the Junior Eagles lost by just a pair of points, 29-27. Noah Collins hit for double digits with 12 while Isom Marston just missed with nine.

Play just half a game, the Junior Eagles ‘C’ team scored a 14-9 victory over Goessel with Aaron Goering and Aiden Peres leading the offense with five and four points each.
