HERINGTON – You could almost say the game was over at the end of the first quarter on the road Tuesday as the Little River boys’ basketball team poured 35 points into the scorebook on their way to a 70-27 shellacking of Herington.

After roaring out to a 35-4 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Redskins dropped in another 20 points in the second quarter to hold a dominating 40-point, 55-15 advantage by halftime.

After scoring just 15 in the third, Little River went scoreless in the fourth quarter while Herington tried to salvage a little respect on the scoreboard in the Redskins 43-point victory.

When you look at the stat sheet it wouldn’t appear that Herington played that bad as they shot 48% from the field which including a perfect two-for-two from beyond the arc. Problem was they only got off 23 shots compared to the Redskins 47 attempts from the field in which they made 53% of including five three-pointers, plus another 15-of-20 from the free throw line.

The glaring problem for the host team was the Little River defense which forced Herington into 27 turnovers.

Did we mention that Herington had trouble stopping the three-headed offensive monster that Little River put on the court as Jayden Garrison, Trey Rolfs and Braxton Lafferty combined for 64 of the teams 70 points. Garrison connected for 27 while Rolfs hit for 21 and Lafferty only missed one of his six shots on the day on his way to scoring 16. Lafferty also dished out four assists while Rolfs handed out three while the two both recorded six steals.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LITTLE RIVER REDSKINS? With the victory the Redskins are now 10-3 for the season as they prep to host Goessel on Friday.
