LINDSBORG – The consistency in offense by the visiting team cost the Smoky Valley boys basketball team a home game on Tuesday as Hillsboro played four quarters of consistent basketball and beat the Viking boys by seven, 64-57.

Smoky Valley held a one-point, 15-14 advantage coming out of the first eight minutes of basketball before Hillsboro outscored the Vikings 17-11 in the second quarter to head to the halftime break with a five-point, 31-26 lead.

Coming out of the break, Hillsboro put 17 and 16 points on the scoreboard in the third and fourth quarters, and while the Vikings hit for 19 in the third, they were only able to connect for 12 in the fourth as the visitors scored their seven-point victory.

The Vikings had unbelievable balance in their offensive attack with only seven players putting points in the scorebook, but four of them hit for double digits as both Matt Lucas and Cade Schneider shared the team high with 12 while Trey Kennedy and Ryan Heline each chipped in with 10. Four Vikings hit for a total of six three-pointers in the game with Kennedy and Schneider each connecting on two while Johann Rauchholz and Ryan Heline each made one.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE SMOKY VALLEY VIKINGS? With the loss, the Vikings drop to 4-9 for the season as they prep for a busy week as they hit the road at the end of the week with games on Thursday at Hoisington and then on Friday at Larned.
