CANTON – Six students from Canton/Galva USD 419 were named winners in the 2019 Happy Birthday Kansas student photo contest that was sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society.

Two winners were selected from each grade 1st to 12th with first place in each grade receiving iPads and second place winners receiving an Amazon Kindle.

The awards were presented by Governor Laura Kelly at the Kansas Day celebration in Topeka’s Capital Building on Wednesday, January 29.

This year there were 777 total entries in the contest from students throughout the state of Kansas.

Here are the winners from Canton/Galva USD 419:

  • 12th grade – Jamasen Nichols won 1st
  • 12th grade – Monica Costa finished in 2nd
  • 4th grade – Faith McMannis finished in 2nd
  • 3rd grade – Tanner Riley won 1st
  • 2nd grade – Josie Beltz finished in 2nd
  • 1st grade – Jarett Riley finished in 2nd
