MOUNDRIDGE – A huge fourth quarter powered the Moundridge girls’ basketball team to a convincing 52-36 victory on Tuesday at home over Hutchinson Trinity Catholic.

While Trinity held a slim two-point, 13-11 lead at the end first quarter, the Lady Wildcats held the visitors to just four second quarter points while putting another 11 on the scoreboard, giving Moundridge a five-point, 22-17 lead heading into the halftime break.

Trinity bounced back in the third quarter and pulled back to within one point at 34-33 before the Lady Wildcats poured in 18 points in the final eight minutes of play while holding Trinity to just three, giving Moundridge the final 16-point win.

“Trinity was in second-place in the Heart of America League coming into the game,” noted Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler in her post-game reflections. “So, this was a big win for us. I’m so happy for these young ladies as they have worked hard every day and it showed tonight.”

Kourtney Kaufman had a huge game for the Lady Wildcats as she led the team in scoring with 17 points, 15 of which came on five three-pointers, while also tying with Katie Stucky for taking care of the work in the paint as they both pulled down eight rebounds.

Kate Eichelberger was a power on the inside as she not only was perfect in shooting with five-for-five from the field and four-for-four at the free throw line to give her 4 total points, she also recorded eight blocked shots. Erin Durst had a solid game on the outside, just missing double digits in scoring with nine while dishing out seven assists and making five steals when it was time for some defense.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LADY WILDCATS? Now just one game under .500 at 8-9 for the season, the Lady Wildcats will look to even their season mark on Friday when they play host to Berean Academy.
