STRUBER GETS DOUBLE-DOUBLE!
GOESSEL – After leading or being tied through three quarters, the Canton/Galva boys’ basketball team was unable to close it out on Thursday and faltered late in losing on the road, 49-42, to Goessel in a makeup game.
The two teams battled to an 11-11 tie at the end of the first quarter before the Eagles were able to pull out to a four-point, 27-23 lead by the time they headed to the locker rooms for the halftime break.
Coming out of the break, Goessel pulled the game back into a 37-37 tie heading into the final quarter of play where the Eagles faltered and ended up losing by seven.
“The boys played extremely hard tonight,” noted Eagle Head Coach Shane Duncan in his post-game reflections. “But it’s getting to be a broken record the last couple of games, too many turnovers. We had them down by eight halfway through the third quarter and then had some poor offensive possessions. We then got the game down to just three with just a minute and a-half left on the clock but weren’t able to capitalize.”
For the game, the Eagles turned the ball over 21 times while Goessel only miscued 10 times.
Tyson Struber led the Eagles by recording another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, plus he managed to block a pair of shots on defense. Brayden Collins also scored 11 while getting a pair of blocked shots as well. Xavier Westbrook helped on the boards by recording eight rebounds.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CANTON/GALVA EAGLES? With the loss the Eagles are now 5-11 for the season as they get no time to rest by turning around and playing again on Friday when they host Peabody/Burns on senior night.
