KONEN, BERGKAMP, BOUGHFMAN LEAD LITTLE RIVER!

LITTLE RIVER – Playing their third game in just four days, the Little River girls basketball team fell behind for three quarters before making a valiant comeback in the final eight minutes of play only to fall short and loss a makeup home battle with Centre, 51-48 on Thursday.

Centre took a slim two-point, 11-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, then stretched the advantage over the Lady Redskins to four at 26-22 heading into the halftime break. Coming out in the second half, the Lady Redskins were unable to nip away at the Centre lead and trailed by seven, 42-35 by the end of the third quarter.

Putting 13 points up in the final eight minutes while holding Centre to just nine was a valiant effort by Little River to come back, only to fall short by three and take the 51-48 loss.

“Tough game tonight,” noted Little River Head Coach Trey Look. “Feel like it was one that we let slip away. The third game in four days is tough but we just didn’t play with any intensity or passion.”

While the Lady Redskins put two more scores on the board from the field, the difference came at the free throw line where Centre connected on 19-of-24 while Little River only made 12-of-23, points that made a difference in the end.

Despite outrebounding Centre by seven, the Lady Redskins hurt themselves by turning the ball over 19 times to just 10 miscues by the visitors.

Coach Look concluded his game reflections by saying, “We were able to score points but defensively we weren’t focused. We were able to get plenty of inside shots but just didn’t make them. A game that we’ll learn from.”

Morgan Konen and Emma McBride led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 10 points each while Lily Boughfman just missed a double-double as she finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Jaylie Bergkamp and McBride also worked hard under the glass by grabbing seven and six rebounds respectively. Danielle Gadberry helped direct the Little River offense by dishing out four assists.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LADY REDSKINS? With the loss the Lady Redskins are now 9-8 for the season as they finish up a very busy week with a road trip on Friday to Solomon.
