MOUNDRIDGE – After being in control for the first half, the Moundridge boys’ basketball team hit some offensive and defensive bumps in the second half of their home game Tuesday with Hutchinson Trinity Catholic and finished the evening with a seven-point, 49-42 loss.

The Wildcats had control of the first two quarters, leading 12-9 at the end of the first and then extended their advantage out to nine at 27-18 by the time the two teams hit the locker rooms for the halftime break.

After holding Trinity’s offensive juggernaut Lucas Hammeke to just six points in the first half, the Moundridge defense suddenly unraveled while their offensive went cold and Trinity outscored the Wildcats 14-5 in the third quarter to tie the game at 32-32 heading into the final eight minutes of play. Hammeke, who finished the night with 26 points, continued to score in the fourth to help Trinity pull away in the final quarter and take the seven-point victory.

While both teams recorded 23 rebounds, Trinity pulled down 12 of theirs on the offensive glass to give them 10 points in second chance opportunities while the Wildcats only recorded seven offensive rebounds and just four second chance scores.

Brady Helms had a big night for the Wildcats as he had a team high 18 points while also pulling down eight rebounds and recording two blocked shots. Landon Kaufman led the Wildcat offense by dishing out five assists and getting in double digits as well in the scorebook with 10 points. Jonathon Schlosser recorded seven rebounds.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS?  Now two games under .500 for the season at 7-9, the Wildcats will look to getting a big victory on Friday when they play host to currently unbeaten Berean Academy.
