MCBRIDE SCORES 17 IN 51-29 WIN!

By William

SOLOMON – Going on the road Friday, the Little River girls’ basketball team closed out a very busy week with their third victory in four games in just five days as they went ahead early and cruised in for a 22-point, 51-29 win at Solomon.

Defense played a big part in the first half as the Lady Redskins held the host team Lady Gorillas to just two points in the first quarter while putting up 12 themselves on the scoreboard to take an early 10-point lead. Little River then pushed their lead out to 16 by the halftime break at 25-9.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Redskins again held Solomon to less than 10 points in the quarter while hitting for another 12 to head into the final quarter of play holding a 20-point, 37-17 advantage.

“Great team win tonight,” noted Little River Head Coach Trey Look in his post-game reflections. “For our fourth game this week we came out and played with focus and fire. The girls executed at both ends of the floor, took care of the ball, shard the ball and played great team defense. Proud of the girls for finishing this week with a win and winning three of four games. We finally get some rest as we prepare for the final week of the regular season.”

With nine Lady Redskins putting points in the scorebook, Emma McBride led the team in scoring with 17 while both Lily Boughfman and Mackinze Barta each chipped in with eight.

Barta topped the team in rebounds with seven of which four were on the offensive end, while Danielle Gadberry pulled down four. Barta and Morgan Konen directed the offense as they both dished out four assists, while on the defensive end, Barta, Gadberry and McBride each recorded a pair of steals and Boughfman got credit for a pair of blocked shots.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LITTLE RIVER LADY REDSKINS? With the victory the Lady Redskins finished this week 3-1 and are now 11-7 for the season as they get a couple days to rest before prepping for a home game on Tuesday with Pawnee Heights.
