CHAPMAN – Smoky Valley had five junior varsity wrestlers compete on Saturday at the 10-team Chapman Junior Varsity Wrestling Tournament and returned home with a pair of first place finishers as well as one runner up.

Both Austin Sharp and Richard Zeller finished the day unbeaten at 3-0 in the 152 and 160 lbs. divisions to earn gold for the tournament.

Justin Holt, wrestling at 182-195, came home with a second-place finish.


At 126 lbs.

Clayton Douglass finished 1-4 and placed 5th

  • Lost by fall to Braxtonh Kindel of Concordia.
  • Lost by fall to Dayton Wuthnow of Abilene.

At 152 lbs.

Austin Sharp finished 3-0 and place 1st.

  • Sharp won by fall over Roman Dalme of Salina South.
  • Sharp won by fall over Jacob Schoby of Chapman.
  • Sharp won by fall over Dylan Roberts of Salina South.

At 160 lbs.

Richard Zeller finished 3-0 and placed 1st.

  • Zeller won by fall over Doug Elston of Salina South.
  • Zeller won by fall over Ariston Gamino of Wamego.
  • Zeller won by fall over Gannon Mosher of Chapman.

At 182-195 lbs.

Justin Holt finished 2-1 and placed 2nd.

  • Holt won by decision (4-2) over Nate Dettke of Marysville.
  • Holt won by fall over Jack Bowers of Beloit.
  • Lost by fall to Beau Wassenbery of Marysville.

At 220 lbs.

Alex Grosland finished 0-3 and place 4th.

  • Lost by fall to Gunnar Hale of Concordia.
  • Lost by fall to Brayden Lexow of Chapman.
  • Lost by fall to Cade Elswick of Wamego.
