INMAN – It was a game that should’ve won after leading going into the final quarter, but unfortunately the Inman boys’ basketball team faltered late and lost 49-47 to Sterling at home on Tuesday.

Sterling jumped out early and held a five-point, 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter before the Teutons offense put 17 points on the scoreboard in the second quarter to not only take back the lead, but to move out to a four-point advantage at 28-24 as the two teams headed to the locker rooms for the halftime break.

In a low scoring third quarter, Inman still held on to a slim, two-point, 34-32 lead heading into the final quarter of play where Sterling outscored the Teutons 17-13 to gain the razor thin two-point victory.

“Not sure what to really say,” explained Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese as he reflected on the late game loss. “We shouldn’t have lost this one tonight. We just can’t seem to finish a close one despite the kids playing as well as they have all year. Sterling is tough and we battled.”

Three Teutons managed to reach double digits in the scorebook with Kolby Blank leading the team with 11 while both Jace Doerksen and Kyler Konrade each chipped in for 10. Eli Brunk just missed double digits with nine. One solid performance for Inman came from hitting seven three-pointers, including three by Brunk while both Blank and Konrade each connected for two. One poor performance that made a difference was at the free throw line where the Teutons only made 16-of-30.

Coach Froese concluded his reflections by saying, “Making only 16-of-30 from the line won’t do it, it never will against a good team. I’m tired of talking about learning from losses. I love this team as they’re young and play super hard. They’re only going to get better and better, the upside of this team is tremendous but it stinks as we try and figure out what it takes to win in big games.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE INMAN TEUTONS? The loss drops the Teutons to 11-6 for the season as they prepare for a short road trip west to Little River to battle the Redskins on Friday.
