COLLINS, COLGIN, STRUBER LEAD EAGLES!

By William

CANTON – A huge first half offensively helped propel the Canton/Galva boys’ basketball team to a convincing 23-point, 60-37 victory on Tuesday at home over Centre.

The Eagles jumped out to a nine-point, 17-8 lead by the end of the first quarter before pouring in 22 second quarter points to roll out to a commanding 24-point, 39-15 advantage as the two teams headed in for the halftime break.

Centre was able to play the Eagles even in the final two quarters but not enough to shave but one point off the lead to give Canton/Galva the dominating 23-point win.

“We really shot the ball well in the first half,” pointed out Eagle Head Coach Shane Duncan during his reflections on the game. “We combined to shoot 7-of-11 from the three-point line. I felt we were patient and didn’t force much against Centre’s zone defense, while our defensive pressure got them in to an uncomfortable pace which led to some easy transition baskets for us.”

As a team for the game the Eagles shot 43% while holding Centre to making just 23% of their 54 attempts from the field.

Brayden Collins and Kinser Colgin led Canton/Galva in scoring for the game with 14 and 13 points respectively while Tyson Struber and Christian Darrah both just missed double digits with nine. All of Darrah’s points came from his game leading three three-pointers. Collins and Struber led the Eagles inside the paint as they grabbed seven and six rebounds each. Brayden Minson directed the Eagle offense and dished out six assists.

On defense the Eagles recorded 11 steals with Colgin and Struber leading the way with four each.

Coach Duncan concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “(Brayden) Collins and (Kinser) Colgin both had very good games for us tonight on the offensive and defensive ends while Christian (Darrah) had his best game of the season by going three-for-three from beyond the arc. Like Friday night, this was a great team win. Anytime you have six players score between seven and 14 points, it’s going to be a good night.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CANTON/GALVA EAGLES? The victory is the second in a row for the Eagles and the seventh for the season against 10 losses as they now prep for their final two games of the regular season, playing a home makeup game with Wakefield on Friday before closing out the regular season next Tuesday with a home game against the Wichita Warriors.
