ROZEL – A huge first half offensively helped the Little River girls’ basketball team earn a decisive 13=point, 51-38 victory on the road Tuesday at Pawnee Heights.

The Lady Redskins doubled the score of the home team, 18-9 by the end of the first quarter and then outscored Pawnee Heights 13-2 in the second period to take a commanding 20-point, 31-11 lead into the halftime break.

After raising the advantage to 25 points at 46-21 by the end of the third quarter, the Lady Redskins allowed Pawnee Heights to nearly double their score with 17 points in the final quarter to chip 12 points off the lead and make the final 13 point victory less decisive then the game really was.

“Good job by the girls tonight,” noted Lady Redskin Head Coach Trey Look during his game reflections. “Played pretty well in the first half to build a good lead. We moved the ball well and played sound defense. The second half we didn’t play very good focused basketball as we let them get some momentum and gave up too many offensive rebounds. Overall, it was a good win.”

The biggest margin of difference in the team stats came in shooting as the Lady Redskins shot a solid 42% from the field while Pawnee Heights could only connect on 27% of their shots.

Emma McBride led Little River in scoring with 16 while Mackinze Barta also reached double digits with 11. A total of 10 Lady Redskins put points in the scorebook for the evening.

Calling it a team victory held true in the fact that the Lady Redskins had a whopping 17 assists on 21 made shots from the field, led by Lily Boughfman and Morgan Konen who each dished out three. Boughfman also led the team in the paint by pulling down eight rebounds with help from Barta and McBride who each hauled in five and four respectively. On defense the Lady Redskins made eight steals led by Danielle Gadberry with three.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LITTLE RIVER LADY REDSKINS? The win gives the Lady Redskins a 12-7 record for the season as they enter the final stages of the regular season. Next up will be a home matchup with area rival Inman.
