STUCKY, HOBSON, STONE TOP EAGLE SCORERS!

By William

ELYRIA – After trailing by as much as nine in the first half, the Elyria Christian boys’ basketball team righted the ship in the final two quarters to gain a 10-point, 41-31 victory at home Tuesday over Peabody/Burns.

The visitors jumped on the Eagles in the first quarter and led by seven at 14-7 going into the second quarter where Elyria Christian started to right the offensive ship and pulled back to within one-point at 23-22 heading into the halftime break.

In the final two quarters, the Eagles outscored Peabody/Burns 19-8 to pull away and score the final 10-point win.

“It’s always tough to beat a team three times in one season and we were able to do that tonight against Peabody/Burns,” commented Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich in his post-game reflections. “They always play with a lot of effort and at times we matched that effort and other times we lacked that intensity we needed. We did not start the game well and found ourselves down by as much as nine early. A key for our success this 8season has been to get the ball inside, which we did not do as much as I would have liked tonight. We settled for a lot of threes and did not shoot a high percentage.”

As a team the Eagles only shot 27% from the field but were helped by a solid defense which forced Peabody/Burns into making 22 turnovers of which 18 came on steals by Elyria with Josef Hobson and Jackson Stone recording five each.

Offensively, seven Eagles put points in the scorebook, and they had three hit for double digits led by Zach Stucky who scored 12 while both Hobson and Stone each hit for 10.

In the junior varsity game, the Eagles also scored a victory by beating Peabody/Burns 41-14.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE ELYRIA CHRISTIAN EAGLES? With the victory the Eagles are now 12-7 on the season and on a three-game win streak as they prep for their final regular season game on Friday when they play host to Marion on homecoming.
