BROOKVILLE – It was over at the opening tip on Tuesday as the Moundridge boys’ basketball team literally buried Ell-Saline on the road with a 55-point, 77-22 victory.

The Wildcats began the game hot offensively and never cooled down as they blasted the scoreboard with 36 first quarter points while Ell-Saline was only able to put three in their scorebook, giving Moundridge an already commanding 33-point lead, 36-3 by the end of the opening quarter. Another 22-point quarter gave the Wildcats a 47-point, 55-11 advantage going into the halftime break.

Moundridge let up on the accelerator in the final two quarters, only putting 19 more points on the scoreboard while Ell-Saline could only manage another 11 to give the Wildcats the final 55-point win.

“The kids got after it early,” noted a very pleased Wildcat Head Coach Vance Unrau in his post-game reflections. “We didn’t make many mistakes and turned steals into quick and easy baskets. This team is still playing for something and it showed tonight.”

Nine Wildcats put points by their name in the scorebook for the evening, with Brady Helms and Jonathon Schlosser leading the way as they each scored 17 while Corbin Unruh was right on their heels with 16. Helms and Schlosser also led the team on the boards as they both grabbed six rebounds each with Daniel Kaufman and Korbin Wedel also tough in the paint with five rebounds each. Landon Kaufman and Logan Churchill directed the scoring machine with six and five assists respectively while the team recorded 21 assists on 33 made baskets. On defense Corbin Unruh had the quick hands as he swiped seven steals from Ell-Saline.

As a team, the Wildcats shot a blistering 72% from the field for the game while outrebounding Ell-Saline by a whopping 34-7.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE MOUNDRIDGE WILDCATS? Now 8-10 for the season, the Wildcats will be back on the competitive hardwood on Friday when they play host to Sedgwick.
