MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge boys basketball team held off a final quarter comeback attempt by Sedgwick to score a final 10-point, 42-32, victory at home on Friday.

The Wildcats jumped out to a five-point, 12-7 lead by the end of the first quarter before pushing the advantage to 10 at 22-12 going into the halftime break.

Coming out in the third quarter, Moundridge increased their lead to a comfortable 15 points at 33-18 going into the final eight minutes of play where Sedgwick made a valiant comeback attempt to pull will with 10 as the Wildcats hung on for the win.

“We adjusted well to the physicality of the game and took care of the ball late when Sedgwick made a run,” explained Wildcat Head Coach Vance Unrau during his reflection on the game. “We battled a little foul trouble, but our bench came through. Didn’t score a lot but we took care of the ball and played solid defense. The boys are playing their best basketball right now and we can still get better.”

The Wildcat victory was helped by the fact that Sedgwick only shot 27% from the field for the game while the Wildcats connected on 55% of their shots while also holding a 26-20 advantage in rebounds.

Landon Kaufman led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 while Daniel Kaufman and Brady Helms each hit double digits as well with 10 points each. Daniel Kaufman and Jonathon Schlosser led Moundridge in the paint with seven rebounds each while Helms pulled down six and blocked two shots.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE MOUNDRIGE WILDCATS? The victory brings the Wildcats to within one game of .500 at 9-10 for the season with their final regular season game coming on Monday at home against cross-county rival Inman.
