It was no contest from the opening tip as the Little River boys’ basketball team began their quest for a state tournament bid with a commanding 75-40 victory over Centre on Thursday in their first-round game of the Class 1A regionals.

The Redskins jumped on Centre early and took an early 11-point, 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter before rolling on and taking a 12-point advantage at 31-19 as the two teams headed to the half-time break.

Coming out of the break on fire the Little River offense doubled their points in the third quarter to carry a 27-point, 62-35 lead into the final eight minutes of play. In the final quarter the Redskins continued to bury Centre as they cruised on in for the final 35-point victory.

The Redskins were led by Jayden Garrison who was a one-man wrecking crew as he scored more individually than Centre did as a team with 44 points. Garrison connected on 65% of his shots from the field which included 10-of-16 from beyond the three-point line and four-of-four from the free throw line. Garrison also grabbed five rebounds while tying for the team lead in steals with Braxton Lafferty as they both swiped four balls on defense.

Little River’s Trey Rolfs also reached double digits with 15 points while leading the team in the paint with six rebounds. Keaton Richardson directed the offense and recorded four assists.

As a team the Redskins hit 52% of their shots from the field which included 48% from beyond the three-point arc as well as hitting 86% of their 14 free throw attempts. On defense, Little River forced Centre into making 23 turnovers.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LITTLE RIVER REDSKINS?
