LINDSBORG – Playing a game postponed from Tuesday due to the weather, the Smoky Valley boys’ basketball team finally closed out their 2019-20 regular season on Friday at home with a 73-55 loss to Haven.

The Vikings fell behind early, trailing by eight, 17-9, by the end of the first quarter and being down by 11, 31-20, heading into the halftime break.

Smoky Valley chipped a few points off the lead in the third quarter and entered the final eight minutes of the regular season trailing by just seven at 45-38 before Haven went basket crazy in the final quarter by scoring 28 points to just 17 by the Vikings to give Haven the final 18-point victory.

As a team the Vikings had a hot hand from beyond the three-point arc as they connected on 10 of their attempts with both Trey Kennedy and Cade Schneider each draining three while Bruster Bengston made two.

Schneider and Kennedy led the Viking offense with 17 and 14 points respectively while both Bengston and Brandt Heble each scored six.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE SMOKY VALLEY VIKINGS? With the loss the Vikings tumble to 6-14 for the season as they now prep to go on the road Monday to play Haven once again, this time in the first round of the Class 3A Sub-State. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
