GARRISON, ROLFS TOP LITTLE RIVER SCORERS!

GOESSEL – The Little River boys basketball team, riding the scoring of just four players, powered out to a solid lead in the first half and held on to a valiant Goessel comeback in the final two quarters to score a seven-point, 51-44 victory on Saturday to take the championship in their Class 1A regional finals.

After leading by six, 17-11, at the end of the first quarter, the Redskins outscored Goessel 16-7 in the second quarter to take a commanding 15-point, 33-18 advantage into the halftime break.

Goessel came out strong in the third quarter and doubled Little River for the eight minutes, 14-7 to pull back within eight heading into the final quarter of action. The Redskins then held off Goessel to earn their final seven-point margin win.

While both teams shot around 41-42% from the field with each team hitting on 19 shots from the field, but the Redskins held a 4-2 advantage in made three-pointers and a 9-4 advantage in made free throws, both of which earned them the margin of victory.

Little River’s defense also helped as they forced Goessel into 18 turnovers, which included 13 Redskin steals and four blocked shots.

Jayden Garrison once again led the Redskins in scoring with 21 while Trey Rolfs joined him in double digits with 15 thanks to three three-pointers. Braxton Lafferty and Rylan Konen were the only other Redskins to score as they chipped in with seven and 4 points respectively.

Rolfs and Garrison led the Little River effort in the paint with eight and seven rebounds while Rolfs also recorded three blocked shots and three steals. Garrison led the team in the quick hands department as he had credit for four steals while Lafferty recorded three.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LITTLE RIVER REDSKINS? The Redskins are now 18-3 for the season and move on to the Class 1A substate next week beginning on Thursday, March 5 at either Marysville or Riley County.
