INMAN – It was a struggle for three quarters before the Inman boys’ basketball team poured in 20 points in the final eight minutes of play on Tuesday to score a final eight-point, 51-43 victory over Sedgwick in their Class 2A sub-state battle.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAD FOR THE TEUTONS? The victory means the Teutons get to play again on Friday while upping their season mark to 13-7. The victory also means the Teutons now get to play the sub-state number one seed Ellinwood who is now 17-4 for the season and will be coming off a resounding 48-32 win over Remington on Tuesday. The game Friday will tip off at 6:00 p.m.

THE GAME – The two teams played to a 10-10 tie at the end of the first quarter before Sedgwick took a very slim one-point, 19-18 advantage into the halftime break.

After both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter, the Teutons entered the final eight minutes of play still trailing by one before they poured 20 points into the scorebook in the final quarter while holding Sedgwick to just 11 to earn their eight-point victory and live to play another game.

THE TEUTON TEAM – With the help of four three-pointers, Jace Doerksen led the Teutons in scoring with 18 points while Kyler Konrade finished with 10 and connected on three three-pointers. Derick Johnson and Kolby Blank each chipped in with nine points as Johnson hit a pair of three-pointers and Blank hit one. The Teutons connected on a total of 10 three-pointers for the evening.

WHAT THE COACH SAYS – “I am just super proud of this team tonight,” explained Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese during his post-game reflections. “Really showed our toughness and want to win against a senior laden and very athletic Sedgwick team. So very proud of how we responded in the fourth quarter tonight. Derick (Johnson) and Kolby (Blank) were awesome in the fourth as both them hit some big shots for us. Jace (Doerksen) was terrific all night as he just does so many things for our team.”

Coach Froese concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “This team has grown up so much this year. We have faced a really tough schedule and have fought through it and I can see the rewards from it. It will be an electric atmosphere here in Inman on Friday and I wanted this team to experience that in the worse way. Hats off to them and how well they played.”
