MAY IS MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH!!

Traffic Stop Tuesday Postings are presented by the McPherson Police Department

This Tuesday they are talking about ‘MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH’.

May is ‘MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH’, and we would like to remind everyone to be on the lookout for motorcyclists.

Motorcycles are smaller, often harder to see, and it can be more difficult to judge their speed.

Give motorcyclists the same amount of space you would any other vehicle on the roadway.

In brief, Standard Traffic Ordinance Section 139 {a} on Operating Motorcycles on Roadways Laned for Traffic states:

  • All motorcycles are entitled to full use of a lane and no motor vehicle shall be driven in such a manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane.
  • This subsection shall not apply to motorcycles operated two abreast in a single lane.

Not only this month, but every day of every month, be attentive to motorcyclists and other motorists on the roadway around you, look twice and save a life.
