MAY IS BICYCLE AWARENESS MONTH!!
Traffic Stop Tuesday Postings are presented by the McPherson Police Department
This Tuesday they are talking about ‘BICYCLE AWARENESS MONTH’.
Not only is May ‘Motorcycle Awareness Month’, but it is also ‘BICYCLE AWARENESS MONTH’ as well.
This week is ‘NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK WEEK’, and ‘BIKE TO WORK DAY’ is Friday, May 15th!!
Warm weather also means more bicycle riders are out riding.
PLEASE remember to watch out for bicyclists day and night while also abiding by the Standard Traffic Ordinance.
In summary, Standard Traffic Ordinance 40(c) on Overtaking Bicycles on the left says – The driver of a vehicle overtaking a bicycle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a distance of not less than three feet and shall not again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken bicycle.
The driver of a vehicle may pass a bicycle proceeding in the same direction in a no-passing zone with the duty to execute the pass only when it is safe to do so.
Whether you plan to bike to work this week or not, for the rider’s safety please remember to give them enough space to be safe.
