MCPHERSON – On Saturday, June 6, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Black Lives Matter will be holding a Peaceful Gathering in McPherson.

The Gathering will begin with a march from the roundabout in the 1600 block of E. Euclid Street (by McPherson College) and proceed west on Euclid Street to the Lakeside Park Bandshell.

City of McPherson Mayor Tom Brown, McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden, and other community leaders met with local Black Lives Matter representatives to work together for a peaceful Gathering and continued unity in the McPherson community. In addition to the march to Lakeside, Gathering organizers plan to have guest speakers, observe nine minutes of silence (In remembrance of George Floyd), music, and more.

Both McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden and McPherson County Sheriff Jerry Montagne will be participates in some of the afternoon events.

In a media release, the McPherson Police Department stated that they have received information about protestors from out of town attending the Gathering.

While they anticipate the Gathering will remain peaceful, the McPherson Police Department remains steadfast in their commitment to protect and serve all of the community members and their property. They also stated they would deploy additional resources to help meet their commitment.

The McPherson Police Department asks for your help maintaining a Peaceful Gathering and in keeping our community safe.
