MCPHERSON – With the opening of the McPherson Water Park, the McPherson Aqua Pups will be returning to action beginning on June 22 with practice running from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.

The practices for the McPherson Aqua Pups will be Monday-Friday or as soon as the Water Park opens in case there are any delays.

The Aqua Pups are planning the season with safety practices and proper social distancing guidelines in place as recommended by USA Swimming, the Center for Disease Control, and the policies adopted by the City of McPherson regarding the usage of the Water Park facility.

Two sign-up/drop-in signup sessions will be available, with the first being from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, and the second session being from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.

These sign-up/drop-in sessions will take place at the residence of the Club President, Kirk Williams, located at 544 Oaklane in McPherson.

In addition to the regular practices, the Aqua Pups are working with the McPherson Recreation Commission for two-week introduction to competitive swimming tryout camps. These sessions will run from 9:30-10:30 a.m. each morning with the first being from June 29 to July 10.

The first camp tryout is for non-team members. It is planned for kids who enjoy swimming, are confident in the water, and who may have been curious about joining the team but were just uncertain about taking the plunge. Topics to be covered will include: the difference between racing and just swimming, what exactly happens at swim practices, dryland activities and exercises, developing stroke techniques, turns, and diving.

The second camp (exact dates to be announced) will emphasize racing, more in-depth technique breakdowns, and higher intensity workouts. This camp will be open to current Aqua Pups members.

The cost of both camps is $50, and space will be limited, so if interested, and/or if you have any questions regarding the camps, or questions regarding the team and season in general – email the Aqua Pup Club at, or visit the teams website by googling McPherson Aqua Pups and clicking on the Team Unify link.
