Shown below is “what USD 418 knows at this time” along with our working timeline for planning as we move toward the start of school in the fall of 2020.

WHAT WE KNOW:

Governor Kelly provided two executive orders related to schools.

Executive Order #20-58 and #20-59, both of which we give a brief overview as follows:

EXECUTIVE ORDER #20-58:

This order delays the start of school during the following window of August 10, 2020 through September 8, 2020.

This order requires the Kansas State Board of Education’s approval before the Governor can sign it. Administrators of USD 418 anticipate the State Board of Education will convene on Wednesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. to take action on this order.

EXECUTIVE ORDER #20-59:

This order sets into place the following conditions across all Kansas schools:

  • Face coverings (masks) will be required for ALL staff and students in the K-12 setting.
  • Some exemptions will be included in this order with more information to come.
  • Social distancing of six feet will be mandated under this order. However, in face-to-face instruction models, this requirement can be waived as long as masks/face coverings are being worn by all participants in the classroom.
  • Temperature checks of all staff and students will be required under this executive order.
  • Hand sanitizers will be required in every classroom AND must be used once every hour.
