TALKING ABOUT DRIVING THROUGH SCHOOL ZONES

Traffic Stop Tuesday Postings are presented by the McPherson Police Department

This Tuesday, August 25, they are talking about ‘SCHOOL ZONE VIOLATIONS’.

School will be starting as early as August 26 in McPherson, so today we are addressing DRIVING THROUGH SCHOOL ZONES AND SCHOOL ZONE VIOLATIONS.

Editor’s Note: Two schools within McPherson County began the new school year on Thursday, August 20th, with those being Elyria Christian School and Inman USD 448. Little River USD 444 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 25th while St. Joseph Catholic School begins classes on Wednesday, August 26th and Canton/Galva USD 419 starts on Thursday, August 27th. Both McPherson USD 418 and Moundridge USD 423 will begin classes on Tuesday, September 1 and Smoky Valley USD 400 will be the final school in the county to begin classes on Thursday, September 3.

With school beginning in every school district in McPherson County over the next two weeks – the McPherson Police Department would like to remind everyone to watch out for children and crossing guards in and around the:

  • CROSSWALKS
  • SCHOOL ZONES
  • THROUGHOUT THE CITY

  • SPEED LIMIT
  • DRIVE SAFELY
  • YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS

Remember, not all school zones are marked with flashing lights.

Some school zones are posted with a sign, indicating the school zone exists and the times the school zone is in effect.

SCHOOL ZONE TIMES IN MCPHERSON ARE:

  • MORNING = 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
  • LUNCHTIME = 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • AFTERNOON = 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The police officers of the McPherson Police Department and other area communities will strictly enforce the traffic laws in the school zones.

Fines for traffic law violations within a school zone are double the normal traffic tine.

REMEMBER – The speed limit within a school zone is only 20 m.p.h.
