GALVA – The Canton/Galva High volleyball team lost several key members from their 2019 squad graduation but still have several key Lady Eagles returning to help with what looks to be a season of rebuilding.

Lady Eagle Head Coach Cloe Hedlund returns for her third season and looks to continue the yearly improvements record wise that she has found in her first two seasons at the helm.

In 2019, Canton/Galva went 16-17 overall and 7-3 in league games which included solid home victories over league powers Rural Vista and Wakefield. The overall mark was a decent gain over the 11-19 record that Hedlund had in her first season of 2018.

While she acknowledges that the Lady Eagles lost several key seniors and they may have a lot of positions to fill, Hedlund also rattles off players she knows she can count of to build the season around.

Among the top returnees are senior Alexa Bell, juniors Taygen O’Hara, Gracie Kidd and Nicole Miller along with sophomore Brecken Pearson. Hedlund will also look to senior newcomers Emily Peterson and Madison Leach to provide that senior leadership the team will be looking for.

“We are working on a lot of rebuilding this season,” claimed Coach Hedlund. “the first week of practice was very good and I look forward to seeing these young ladies progress throughout the 2020 season.”

Hedlund concluded her pre-season reflections by saying, “We are grateful that we get the opportunity to be on the court daily, so we can continue to try to make the best effort of each day.”

The Lady Eagles will begin their 2020 season on Tuesday, September 1 when they travel cross-county to Inman for a road triangular with the Lady Teutons and Centre.
