INMAN – For the 2020 season the Inman High volleyball team will be looking at improving on a 2019 mark of 19-18 with just one returning Lady Teuton who earned any recognition, plus they have a new head coach.

The Lady Teutons are now led by Head Coach Megan Heckel and she is so new to the program that she admits that ‘she never watched the team last year and only knows of their final record and that they finished in the middle of the pack.’

Coach Heckel is being helped by assistant/junior varsity coaches Micaela Dimitt and Russ Goering.

The lone returning Lady Teuton with any recognition given them will be senior Dantlie Raney as she played well enough to earn 2nd Team All Heart of America League honors.

“I honestly did not know much when I took charge,” noted Coach Heckel. “Last season they finished one win over .500 and return Dantlie Raney as the only player who earned any post-season recognition.”

Now that she has had some practices under their belt, Coach Heckel added, “We have quite a few good hitters on the team while as a team, we need to become better at being mentally tough. They told me that has always been their struggle, so we are working on getting better at that for this season. Our league schedule will be played as double duals, and all of our tournaments have been shortened to just a triangular or quads.”

Coach Heckel concluded her preseason reflections by saying, “We are just thankful and appreciative that we can play. I am excited to start the season when we take on Central Christian and Moundridge. The girls have improved immensely as we have put a lot of time in over the summer and these first few weeks of practice. I am excited to them play in a competitive match.”

The Lady Teuton spikers were scheduled to open their 2020 season on Saturday with a home triangular with Central Christian and Moundridge.
