HUTCHINSON – With two matches in Hutchinson on Tuesday, the Elyria Christian volleyball team earned an even split with Reno County Homeschool and Central Christian.

In the first match of the day against Reno County Homeschool, the Lady Eagles scored a dominating 25-4 win in set one before holding off RCH for a 25-20 victory in set two to gain the straight set victory.

Ryland Hawkinson led Elyria Christian with 10 digs and three kills while Kathleen Rohaus contributed five aces.

Against a strong Central Christian squad, the Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaking two-point, 23-25 first set before letting Central Christian roll over them 8-25 in set two for a match loss for Elyria Christian, giving them a split on the day.

Against Central Christian, Ryland Hawkinson was a force for Elyria as she recorded three kills, three aces and seven digs.

“We played some really good volleyball tonight,” noted Lady Eagle Head Coach Jayme Gardner in her post-game reflections. “We really only had one set that didn’t go our way. Our girls fought hard tonight against an incredibly good Central Christian team. When our serve/receive clicked, we played great. Unfortunately, it was not always clicking. Our serve/receive is something that we are continually working on in practice. We will get there, we have it in us, we just have to begin believing it about ourselves.”

In the junior varsity matches, Elyria Christian scored a 25-14, 25-14 match win over Reno County Homeschool as Mina Aroum with six aces and Kenna Cass led the junior varsity Lady Eagles.

Elyria Christian junior varsity girls earned a split of two sets with Central Christian in their nightcap, winning the first set 28-26 before losing 15-25 in set two. Macy Reiff led the Lady Eagles junior varsity with 10 digs while Julia Allen scored three kills and six digs.

Next up for the Elyria Christian Lady Eagle volleyball team will be on Tuesday, September 8th when they play host to Wakefield.
