TESCOTT – While the Canton/Galva cross country team may only consist of three runners, two of those runners are already pushing for state contention as they finished second and third at Tescott on Thursday.

In 2019 Morgan Becker and Christian Darrah both finished in the top ten at the state championships as sophomores and on Thursday, they began their junior seasons in much the same way as Becker ran a 17:50 to finish 24-seconds behind Reagan Bales of Osborne to take second while Darrah ran the course in 18:11 and placed third.

“Both Morgan (Becker) and Christian (Darrah) along with the kid from Osborne stayed really close throughout the first 4K,” noted Eagle Head Coach Lyle Silsby. “They then separated a little in the last leg of the race and all three finished well ahead of the fourth-place finisher who was more than a minute behind Christian.”

Referencing his two stars, Coach Silsby concluded his reflections on the meet by saying, “I was anticipating a good run from both of our boys, and I was definitely not disappointed. They both have the competitive drive and the work ethic to push themselves, and they did just that all summer on their own while putting in a lot of miles. Morgan (Becker) put in more than 300 miles, and Christian (Darrah) was not too far behind that, so they know what it takes to prepare. I was very proud of both of them today.”

The lone Lady Eagle runner was Sarah Kendall and she placed 27th with a run of 36:49.

Garrett Silsby ran in the eighth-grade race and finished 12th with a time of 7:00 flat.

The Eagle three-some runners will compete next Thursday, September 10th at Hesston.
