HUTCHINSON – It was tough way to end the season opener for the Inman football team as they played powerhouse Hutchinson Trinity even until late in the game before giving up a long scoring run and losing 26-20 on Friday.

After spotting Trinity a 14-0 advantage into the second quarter, Carter Brown finished off a pair of Teuton offensive drives with scoring runs of eight and four yards, then added two extra-point kicks to give Inman and deadlocked 14-14 game with Trinity at halftime.

Trinity’s Walt Gray rambled in from 20 yards out in the third quarter to give the home team the lead again, only they failed on the extra point attempt which left the door open for Inman to take an advantage with another score.

After the Teutons drove down deep into the Trinity side of the field, Nate Shober plunged in from one yard out to tie the game. When the extra point kick failed it looked like the game may be heading into overtime.

Unfortunately, Trinity’s power back Gray broke loose for a 62-yard scoring run late in the final quarter to give Trinity the victory. Gray finished the game as the Teutons biggest nemesis as he battered the Teuton defense for 191 yards rushing on 20 carries for the night.

Overall, the Teutons put up 240 yards of total offense which included 177 through the air by quarterback Jace Doerksen. Brown led the rushing attack with 31 yards on seven carries while Kendyn Blank picked up 74 yards on three pass receptions.

Brown and Eli Brunk led the Teuton defense with six tackles each while Kyler Konrade had five-and-a-half and Tanner Heckel had five.

The Teutons will try to get into the winning column in week two of the 2020 season when they host Ellinwood on Friday, September 11th. Ellinwood lost their season opener 61-0 to Olpe.
