GOESSEL – The Little River volleyball team had a successful road trip on Tuesday when they traveled to Goessel and returned home with victories over both host Goessel as well as Canton/Galva.

In the first match with Canton/Galva, the Lady Redskins were pushed to three sets before scoring a victory, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15.

Against host Goessel, Little River was pushed again but pulled out a straight set win with both sets being decided by just two points at 25-23, 25-23.

Lady Redskin Head Coach Kim Rolfs reflected on the two matches by saying, “Canton/Galva is a strong serving team and did not let too much drop while Goessel is very fundamental and was going after our weaknesses. With all of that coming at us, we responded well. It was so good for our team to experience both these tough teams, hang with them and be tough enough to finish with wins.”

Lily Boughfman was the team leader for Little River as she finished the two matches with 21 in kills, three blocks while serving four aces.

Other team leaders for the night were Alaina Eck who recorded 20 kills and made three serve aces, Anna Birdsong who got credit for 22 assists and three aces, Kate Ellwood who recorded 21 assists, and Aubrey Olander who scored five blocks.

Coach Rolfs concluded her reflections by adding, “Our wins tonight were big! Again, each nigh our goal is to just get better and what happens is what happens. We did get better and again we found ourselves with two more wins. Lots of great moments and most importantly, we battled under adversity.”

In the Junior Varsity matches, Little River lost to host Goessel in straight sets 17-25, 15-25 before earning a straight set victory over Canton/Galva 25-10, 25-16.

Little River will be back in competitive action on Saturday, September 12 when they play in the Centre Invitational.
