SWANSON, DOILE, CASEBEER LEAD LADY BULLPUPS

TOWANDA – It was a solid road performance on Tuesday for the McPherson High volleyball team as they swept both matches with Circle and Winfield in Towanda.

The Lady Bullpups needed three sets to take down host Circle, winning set one 25-16 before Circle stole a two-point second set victory 23-25 before McPherson bounced back for the 25-20 third set win and overall match victory.

“In our match with Circle we came out ready to play in set one, then set two we were up 18-10 and let it slip away,” explained Lady Bullpup Head Coach Christy Doile. “We didn’t handle Circle’s run or the adversity like we have this entire season. Set three we held steady at a 3-5-point lead and I like how our team responded to their first set loss of the season.”

During their second match of the trip, McPherson bounced Winfield in straight sets by winning 25-10, 25-16.

Rhian Swanson and Katie Berg each had huge nights by recording 39 and 21 kills each, while Brette Doile led the Lady Bullpups with an amazing 64 assists for the two matches to go along with 17 digs.

Others who had strong performances for the evening were Taylor Casebeer who scored 20 digs while Lauren Labertew had 13 and Ella Schmid added 12. Berg, Labertew and Doile had a total of seven ace serves as well.

Coach Doile concluded her post match reflections by saying, “(Rhian) Swanson had her highest hitting percentage of the season while (Lauren) Labertew and (Ella) Schmid were outstanding on serve receive for the evening. (Brette) Doile was consistently steady running the offense and snuck in a few offensive setter kills as well. (Katie) Berg had a nice night of serving for us as well.”

In the Lady Bullpup junior varsity matches, they lost in straight sets to Circle, 19-25, 24-26 before scoring a straight set win over Winfield 25-21, 25-16.

Junior Varsity Coach Katelyn Loecker pointed out the pluses of the junior varsity matches when she noted, “Kelcie Kynaston had a nice night for us as she did a great job passing, digging, and hitting out of the back row. I thought Aimee LeBlanc also played well for us tonight when she gave us a spark off the bench with a few kills and several aces, specifically in the second set against Circle.”

Next up for the Lady Bullpup spikers will be on Tuesday, September 15 when they play host to both Rose Hill and Augusta.
