ABILENE – In a quick turnaround from matches on Monday, the 7th grade McPherson Middle School volleyball team traveled to Abilene on Tuesday and made a clean sweep of both Abilene and Salina Lakewood.

Remaining unbeaten at 4-0 for the young season, the 7th grade ‘A’ team Junior Lady Pups took down both Abilene and Salina Lakewood in straight sets, beating host Abilene 25-18, 25-17 before dismantling Salina Lakewood 25-9, 25-11.

“Today was a much better start for us,” explained 7th grade Head Coach Abby Bradstreet. “We are starting to get into a rhythm as a team and learn our spots and roles that best help the team succeed. We made some simple mistakes tonight but overall; I am proud of how the girls performed.”

Coach Bradstreet went on to reflect on several individual performances by adding, “Brooke Doile and Ava Romero had some great serving streaks tonight while Adelynne Strecker was great at the net and getting some good sets up to our hitters. Addysen Patrick, Adelyn Barrow, and Andi Buschbom all had some amazing digs and Kynslie Minns and Karsen Burris had some excellent hits.”

Concluding her post match reflections, Coach Bradstreet finished by saying, “Our communication and hustle on the court continues to be amazing and I am looking forward to these girls continuing to improve every game. It has been fun watching them improve so much in such a quick turnaround! We look forward to a few days of practice before getting back out there next week.”

In the 7th grade ‘B’ team matches, the Junior Lady Pups easily handled Abilene in straight sets 25-9, 25-9 before closing out the day by taking down Salina Lakewood in a two-set battle 25-23, 25-15. The ‘B’ team is now 3-1 on the season.

‘B’ team Coach Chelsey McCasland gave her reflections on the two matches by saying, “After gaining some experience in our first matches, the 7th grade Junior Lady Pups came out with more confidence and were more vocal on the court. We moved some players around and players really owned their spots on the court and were confident in their talk. I was impressed at how we picked each other up and fought back from behind in a close first set against Salina Lakewood. I am glad that we have a few practices before our next match-up to fine tune some fundamentals and am excited to be working with this awesome group of young ladies!”

The 7th grade Junior Lady Pups will return to competitive action on Monday, September 21 when they travel to Hutchinson.
