MCPHERSON – The McPherson Middle School 8th grade volleyball ‘A’ team finally got their first win of the season on Tuesday as they split a pair of matches at home with Abilene and Salina Lakewood.

In the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups first match with Abilene, they lost the first set 18-25 before winning a battle in set two 25-23, but then lost the match with an 8-15 loss in set three.

Against Salina Lakewood, the girls finally took down the goose egg on their record as they recorded their first victory of the season in straight sets, 25-6, 25-20. They are now 1-4 for the young season.

“It was finally nice to get our first win of the season,” noted Head Coach Shelley Bohme. “We set the ball up well tonight but still struggled with serving, especially in set two against Salina Lakewood. I thought we covered well on tips. We are looking forward to getting some good practice time in before we play again on Monday.”

The 8th grade Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team continued to roll as they raised their season mark to a perfect 4-0 with two straight set victories over Abilene (25-15, 25-10) and Salina Lakewood (25-10, 25-12).

‘B’ team Coach Stevie Stockham summed up her reflections on the matches with just five words when she stated, “The girls played great tonight!”

Next up for the McPherson Middle School 8th grade volleyball players will be a road trip to Newton to tangle with Newton Chisholm Middle School on Monday, September 21.
