HERINGTON – Low on numbers does not always matter when you have the strength you have in just a pair of runners and that is exactly how the Canton/Galva cross country season has gone this season as their only two varsity runners finished second and seventh Thursday at the Herington Invitational.

Morgan Becker continues to have an outstanding season as he ran second with a run of 17:04 while fellow Eagle Christian Darrah ran a 17:34 which was good for seventh place.

“Both of the boys ran really good races today,” noted Eagle Head Coach Lyle Silsby. “Morgan (Becker) was only four seconds off the school record with his run while Christian (Darrah) matched his lifetime best time from last season, so they are both in good places for the season. Morgan ran with three other kids for about the first two miles, then was able to separate in the last mile, but none of them were able to catch the winner. Christian also ran with a pack of two runners and was able to best one of them at the end.”

Other Canton/Galva runners were Sarah Kendall, who ran in the girls junior varsity race and ran a 36:03 which was good for sixth while Garrett Silsby ran in an eighth-grade two-mile race and finished 12th with a time of 13:51.

Next up for the Canton/Galva runners will be the Marion Invitational on Thursday, September 24.
