LITTLE RIVER – The Little River football team bounced back well after their week two loss to Clifton/Clyde as the hosted Goessel in the 2020 season home opener and scored a convincing 64-18 victory.

Jayden Garrison threw two scoring passes and then scored on a 43-yard run in the first quarter as the Redskins opened up the game with commanding 24-6 lead by the end of the first quarter of play.

Garrison scored three more times in the second quarter on runs of 10 and 47 yards along with a 28 yard pass reception from Graham Stephens and Stephens found the end zone on a 40 yard scamper as Little River headed into the halftime break with a 56-12 lead, just one point from ending the game at halftime.

After Goessel reached the end zone early in the third quarter, the Redskins ran a few plays before Garrison took a 14-yard pass from Graham Stephens and found the end zone to end the game with the 64-18 win. Little River converted on all eight of their two-point after touchdown attempts.

Offensively, Little River ran 41 plays and covered 403 yards while Goessel snapped the ball 53 times and only gained 262 yards. The Redskins had 282 rushing and 121 through the air while Goessel was nearly split even with 123 yards on the ground while gaining 139 in the air.

Garrison was the big offensive weapon for Little River as he accounted for 141 yards rushing and another 69 passing while also covering 42 yards as a receiver. Graham Stephens just missed a 100-yard game on the ground with 97 while throwing for another 42.

Defensively, the Redskins were led by Stephens with six tackles.

The Redskins will be at home again next week on Friday, September 25 when they host Lincoln. Lincoln will come into the game with a 2-1 mark on the season after losing for their first time Friday night to Palco 64-14.
