SALINA – It appears the Inman football team has put to rest the uncomfortable loss in week one as for the second week in a row since then they dismantled and buried an opponent, this week it was done on the road at Salina Sacred Heart with a 50-0 pasting.

Since that six-point loss to Hutchinson Trinity in week one, the Teutons have now put 117 unanswered points on the scoreboard in two games while forcing Sacred Heart this week to just 50 yards of total offense on 40 offensive plays.

“I was pleased with our overall effort tonight,” noted Teuton Head Coach Lance Sawyer. “I thought our guys played extremely physical on both sides of the ball.”

The defense was more than impressive as they held the Sacred Heart passing attack to a minus-2 yards on four completions, how many times to you see a negative stat in the passing column. When Sacred Heart tried to run the ball 28 times, the Inman defense held them to a measly 1.85 yards per carry or just 52 yards.

Carter Brown led the Teuton defense by recording 11.5 total tackles while Dawson Mannebach had 6 tackles which included three for loss of yardage. A total of 14 Teutons put a mark in the defensive book for the game.

Speaking of the defense, Coach Sawyer added, “Our defense was excellent as Coach Froese did another excellent job of getting the guys prepared and our guys flew to the ball every play. Carter Brown and Kyler Kondrade filled holes at the linebacker spots.”

Offensively, Inman got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Jace Doerksen connected with Derick Johnson for a 57-yard pass play for a touchdown. Doerksen plunged in from one-yard out for the first of two scores in the second quarter as he also threw his second scoring pass of the game on a 37-yard play to Kendyn Blank to give the Teutons a commanding 21-0 lead at the halftime break.

Inman came out and scored three more times in the third quarter five-yard run by Doerksen, an eight-yard scamper by Blank and a three-yard dive by Carter Brown giving the Teutons a solid 42-0 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

In the final quarter backup quarterback Eli Brunk tossed a 13-yard pass to Samuel Shober who took it into the end zone for the Teutons final score of the game after which Shober ran for a two point conversion to give them the final 50-0 win. Carter Brown kicked six successful extra-point kicks before the final score.

For the game, Doerksen completed nine of thirteen passes for 201 yards while Blank led the Teutons in rushing with 38 yards and Talon Welch and Tanner Heckel finished with 34 and 32 yards running as well as Inman ended the game with 166 yards on the ground. Johnson was Doerksen’s favorite receiver as he pulled in three passes for 94 yards while Eli Brunk caught two throws for 50.

Concluding his post-game reflections, Coach Sawyer discussed the offense by saying, “Sacred Heart packed the box in the first half, and we were unable to really get our running game going. We finished the first half with only 19 yards rushing but in the second half we made the effort to focus on the run game and ended up having 166 total rushing yards. Derick Johnson, Eli Brunk and Kendyn Blank made some great open field catches and we were able to open up our offense to keep them honest. Jace (Doerksen) had another tremendous game by throwing for three touchdowns and running for another two.”

Next up for the Teutons will look to continue their winning streak with a road trip out west to Oakley. Oakley will come into the game 3-0 on the season and will be coming off a 34-7 win over Ell-Saline.
