WHITE CITY – Newly ranked in 10th place of the Class 1A Division 2, the Elyria Christian volleyball team stumbled in one of their two matches on the road at Rural Vista during a triangular with Wakefield and Rural Vista.

The Lady Eagles began the trip with a tough three set match against Wakefield where they lost set one, 20-25, before bouncing back to take the final two sets 25-11, 25-17. Kilynn Starburg had a huge match as she recorded 10 kills while also making three blocks to lead Elyria Christian.

In the final match with host Rural Vista, Elyria fought hard in both sets before losing both by five points or less, 20-25, 21-25. Leading the Lady Eagles in the final match were Merrick Robertson who recorded six kills while Julia Allen served three aces and earned four digs.

“It was an off night tonight for us,” reflected Lady Eagle Head Coach Jayme Gardner. “We struggled many times throughout the evening. We had some girls step up in different ways, but we just couldn’t pull it together for a whole game. We are going to put this evening behind us and look forward to bouncing back on Thursday.”

In the junior varsity match with Wakefield, the two teams tied with Elyria winning the first set 25-16, before Wakefield won the second set 23-25. Macy Reiff had five digs and served four aces while Kenna Cass served four aces as well.

Elyria Christian will be at home for a battle with Burrton on Thursday, September 24.
