GARRISON, STEPHENS, DEFENSE LEAD REDSKINS

By William

LITTLE RIVER – The Little River football team made short order of their home game on Friday as they put 42 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter while dismantling the visiting Lincoln Leopards, 50-0 in a game that was over by halftime.

The Redskins scored their first three touchdowns with their running attack offense as Jayden Garrison scored from 2 yards out and Graham Stephens put points on the board from 16 and 2 yards.

After Graham Stephens connected with Ty Herzog for a 17-yard scoring pass, Little River closed out the first quarter with special team and defensive scoring as Garrison took a punt and scampered 60 yards into the end zone while Stephens returned an interception 11 yards for the final score of the first stanza.

Little River only needed one score in the second quarter to put the game to rest by point rules and they did that on a 14-yard run by Garrison. Graham Stephens accounted for two extra point kicks while Garrison, Stephens and Rylan Konen ran in two-point conversions.

It was Redskin domination in the stats as Little River had 12 first downs to the Leopards three while gaining 206 yards in total offense on 31 plays while the Redskin defense held Lincoln to just 19 yards on 29 offensive attempts, including a minus-11 yards rushing.

Stephens and Garrison shared time at quarterback and combined to complete just three of nine for 21 yards.

Braxton Lafferty actually was the team’s leading rusher, running for 45 yards on 5 carries while Stephens ended up with 44 yards on seven totes and Braden Young ran once for 34.

On defense, Little River was led by Kyle Bruce, Graham Stephens, and Grant Stephens.

Now 3-1 on the season, the Redskins now gear up for a road game next Friday, October 2 when they travel to Canton/Galva to battle with the powerhouse defending and unbeaten state champion Eagles.
