HECKEL, KONRADE, BROWN LEAD INMAN

By William

OAKLEY – It was a long, tough road trip on Friday for the Inman football team, but they made it a successful trip as they outplayed Oakley enough to score a 39-13 victory.

The Teutons jumped on the scoreboard from the opening kick as Tanner Heckel took the opening kickoff 70 yards to the end zone to give Inman a quick 6-0 lead after they missed the extra point attempt.

After Oakley came back to take a 7-6 advantage toward the beginning of the second quarter, Heckel pounded into the end zone from six and five yards out to put Inman back into the lead 19-7 going into the halftime break.

Carter Brown rambled in from 16 yards out in the third quarter to give the Teutons a commanding 26-7 lead heading into the final twelve minutes of play.

Oakley dinged the Inman defense for a 56-yard score on a pass play but missed the extra point so the Teutons still lead 26-13. Inman quarterback Jace Doerksen pushed in from one yard out and then connected with Derick Johnson on a 35-yard passing play for a touchdown to give the Teutons their final 26-point, 39-13, victory.

Speaking of the offense, Inman Head Coach Lance Sawyer noted, “Tanner (Heckel) had his best game as an Inman Teuton. He returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and then proceeded to score both of our next two touchdowns as well. I thought our offensive line played really well and Jace (Doerksen) played an extremely efficient game at quarterback.”

Doerksen completed 10-of-11 passes for 99 yards and the one touchdown while also rushing for another 40 yards on 12 carries. Heckel led the Teuton rushing attack with 44 yards on six carries while Kendyn Blank ran for 41 yards on six carries as well. While Johnson caught the scoring pass, Kyler Konrade was Doerksen’s top target for the game as he pulled in four passes for 23 yards.

Overall, Inman spent 51 plays on offense and gained a total of 266 yards while Oakley had the ball a whopping 69 plays but managed just 251 yards.

Defensively, Kyler Konrade had a huge game as he recorded 10.5 tackles of which seven were solo stops and Carter Brown had eight tackles of which five were solo plus he recorded a quarterback sack. Kendyn Blank, Dawson Mannebach and Doerksen each recorded five tackles.

Speaking of the defense, Coach Sawyer concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “I thought this was as good of a defensive game as we have played in the last two years. We were able to force them to have to consistently get three or four yards at a time and we never really gave up the big play until after the game was no longer in question. We played so well as a unit and I felt Nate Shober and Mason Carter really had some nice key stops when needed. We were able to have great field position throughout the game.”

Now 2-1 for the season, the Teutons will return to the home field next Friday, October 2 when they play host to Plainville. Plainville will come into the game 2-2 for the season after losing Friday 33-0 to Ell-Saline.
