DOERKSEN, BLANK, KONRADE, BROWN LEAD TEUTONS

PLAINVILLE – The Inman Teuton football team continues to be on a roll as they dominated Plainville on the road Friday in a 35-7 victory giving the Teutons their fourth win in a row.
Inman scored twice in the first quarter on a four-yard scoring pass play from Jace Doerksen to Carter Brown which was followed up later by a seven-yard scoring run from Tanner Heckel.
Eli Brunk took a pass from Doerksen and rambled into the end zone from nine yards out in the second quarter to give the Teutons a commanding 21-0 advantage going into the halftime break.
While neither team managed to find the end zone in the third quarter, Inman added a 31-yard scoring play from Doerksen to Heckel and a three-yard run from Kyler Konrade to give themselves a 35-0 lead before Plainville was able to score late in the game on a two-yard run. It helped the Teutons that Carter Brown was able to find success on all five of his extra-point kick attempts.
“I was very proud of the way our guys came out and were physical against a big Plainville team,” noted Teuton Head Coach Lance Sawyer. “Our guys were quick off the ball and put Plainville in third and long situations most of the night. One of the biggest plays of the game was on our opening drive when we lined up in punt formation and we were going to get our punt blocked, but Derick Johnson made a great play to avoid the block and ended up rushing for the first down to keep the drive going.”
The Teutons were led on offense by quarterback Jace Doerksen as he threw for 120 yards and three scores while completing nine of sixteen. Doerksen also ran for another 64 yards though Kendyn Blank led the team in rushing with 76 yards and Tanner Heckel ran for another 47 as the Teutons rolled up 369 yards in offense on 59 plays
Speaking of his offense, Coach Sawyer added, “Offensively, I was immensely proud of the way we were able to control the ball in the first half. There were only three possessions for both teams in the first half and we scored on all three of ours. Jace (Doerksen) had another nice night throwing the ball and he did such a good job of distributing the throws to multiple receivers. I thought our offensive line played a good game against a large front line of Plainville. They all played well and because of that we were able to keep Plainville guessing on where the ball was going to go. We were able to average 6.4 yards per carry against a really good defensive team.”
Speaking of the Plainville offense, the Teutons defense held them to just 219 yards on 51 offensive plays.
According to Coach Sawyer, “Our defense was outstanding tonight. I thought Kyler (Konrade) was outstanding with like 13 tackles, one sack and a tackle for loss of yardage on the night. Grant Thimmesch also played really well on the defensive line with six tackles, one sack, two tackles for a loss of yardage, and a blocked punt which he also recovered and returned to the three-yard line.”
Coach Sawyer concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “Our guys are playing with a ton of confidence right now and they are really fun to watch.”
Now 4-1 for the season, the Teutons will be on the road again on Friday, October 9 when they travel to Ell-Saline. Ell-Saline is 2-3 for the season and will be coming off a 45-13 loss to Sedgwick on Friday.
