COLLINS, STRUBER LEAD EAGLES

By William

HERINGTON – The Canton/Galva football team continues to roll toward what they hope will be a second straight 8-Man Division I state championship as they went on the road Friday and hammered Herington 50-0.

Tyson Struber got the Eagles on the board first when he broke loose for a 55-yard scamper for a touchdown on his lone carry of the game.

Brayden Collins followed that up with a seven-yard scoring run before Garrett Maltbie rambled 64-yards for a score to give the Eagles a commanding 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Collins dominated the second quarter with three touchdowns on runs of eight, 30, and 50 yards while Maltbie connected with Struber for another score that covered 19 yards to give Canton/Galva the 50-0, point rule victory. Collins and Brandon Huff both ran for a pair of two-point conversions as well.

Canton/Galva only needed five minutes of offense to get the win as they rolled up 390 yards in offense on just 20 offensive plays, including 254 yards rushing while Maltbie connected on eight passes for 136 yards in passing.

Collins led the Eagles in rushing, gaining 135 yards on just eight carries while Struber caught six of Maltbie’s passes for 93 yards.

On defense, the Eagles shutdown host Herington despite the home team having the ball for over 30 minutes of the game as they were only able to gain 102 yards total on 29 plays.

Leading the defense were Brandon Huff and Tyson Struber with 6.5 and 5.0 tackles, respectively. The Eagle defense had eight tackles for loss of yardage including three by Huff.
