HUFF HAS BIG GAME ON DEFENSE

By William

MOUNDRIDGE – Despite being the first team to find the end zone, the Moundridge football team struggled the rest of the game on offense and lost a home battle with Attica on Friday, 26-6.

Wildcat quarterback Corbin Unruh scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter on a one-yard run, but Moundridge was unable to convert the 2-point conversion but held a slim 6-0 advantage.

Attica scored on an 11-yard run later in the first quarter, but neither team could find the end zone again in the first half and the game went to the halftime break tied at 6-6.

Attica scored twice in the third quarter on 25- and 16-yard pass plays, then added another touchdown on a four-yard run in the final stanza to gain the 26-6 win.

On the stat sheet, the Wildcats had a decent game by picking up 226 yards in total offense on 60 offensive plays with the total being evenly distributed by gaining 118 yards through the air and the other 108 on the ground.

Corbin Unruh connected on just eight of sixteen passes but did not turn the ball over for Moundridge. Brayden Conquest had 40 yards rushing to lead the Wildcats while Korbin Wedel was the top receiver with a pair of catches covering 48 yards.

On defense the Wildcats were led by Joaquin Huff who had another outstanding game by recording 10 total tackles. Overall, the defense gave up 306 yards on 45 plays, including 194 on 29 running plays.

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 2-4 for the season as they prep for a home game next Friday, October 16, when Fairfield comes to town. Fairfield is winless at 0-6 for the season.
